WANA (Sep 07) – Iran’s Chairman of the Parliament’s Councils Commission, Mohammad Saleh Jokar: “It has been decided that foreign nationals wishing to reside in the country must pay a deposit or guarantee.”

In a session of Iran’s Parliament’s Councils Commission held today, key measures for regulating foreign nationals were discussed. Several important decisions were made to enhance the management and control of foreign nationals residing in Iran.

First and foremost, it was decided that all information regarding the living and working locations of foreign nationals would be recorded in a centralized system.

This system aims to create better organization and transparency in matters concerning foreign migrants and will serve as a primary resource for monitoring and controlling their activities.

Additionally, a “Steering Council” will be established within the Ministry of Interior, consisting of representatives from 21 related agencies. This council will be responsible for policymaking on issues related to foreign nationals.

Another key decision emphasized the requirement for hotels, inns, and residential property owners to rent to foreign nationals only with the coordination of security and law enforcement agencies. Any violations of this requirement will result in legal consequences.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Labor is tasked with updating the list of occupations permitted for foreign nationals. Previously, foreign nationals were only allowed to work in 37 specific jobs.

With the updated list, the new demands of production and service sectors will be considered, and foreign workers who are needed in these areas will be regulated, while those not required will be deported.

Lastly, it was decided that foreign nationals wishing to reside in the country must pay a deposit or guarantee. This deposit will be returned to them upon their departure from Iran, serving as a guarantee to ensure their timely exit after their permitted stay has ended.
